Marksman Air Pistol April 27, 2010 Ron G. I could not find this at any dealer stores listed locally, so I bought it online. Upon recieving this I understand why no stores carried it. It is JUNK. Had I bought it at a local dealer, I would have returned it and asked for my money back. It shoots everywhere except where you aim it. It was a total waste of money and I would not wish this on anyone who wants an air pistol that shoots accurately.
Good Starter BB Gun April 9, 2010 Mark Greenbaum (Pegram, TN) The Model 1010 is a classic Crosman BB gun; not a powerful match grade pistol and certainly not a cheap toy.
I remember it from the 1970s and it usually came with a tube of BBs, a packet of mohair-fletched darts in red, yellow, green and blue, and a dart board. Crosman never designed this to be for long-range, high-velocity precision target shooting but rather short-range indoor games and outdoor plinking. And it does all of these very well, therefore I give it five stars. Back in 2003 I found one at a yard sale and paid $10 for it. I took it home, cleaned it with a little WD-40, put a few drops of 3-in-1 oil down the barrel and it sat on a shelf for years. Now that I have a back yard and a workshop I bought some BBs and have been playing with it, shooting at 1" blue foam insulation targets. At about fourteen feet it can still shoot a BB through the foam and ricochet off the wood side of the workshop. I would certainly recommend this as a starter for target shooting and for beginner pistol safety training. As with any weapon, I recommend the use of eye protection and basic weapons safety.
Does what it's supposed to do February 14, 2010 DDH1961 (VA, USA) I have one of these Marksman BB pistols that I bought back in 1997 for about $15. It's still going strong today and has never given me any problems at all. About once every 50 shots or so put a drop or two of 30wt motor oil down the barrel, set it bore up on a table for an hour so the oil will run down the barrel, & it'll keep velocities up where they should be.
First- what it's not: It's not a precision target shooting gun. A soda can more than 20 feet away has a 50-50 chance of making it out alive, so if it's tack driving at 50 feet you're looking for, look elsewhere.
It's also not a hunting gun. While it would likely kill a mouse or bird at the muzzle, beyond a few feet it'll just result in a mouse with a headache and a bird with (probably) a broken wing. Not pretty. So if you're going to hunt, get a CO2 or pump pistol & do it right.
It's also not a toy. While it's far from what I'd call lethal, a direct hit in the eye would likely cause the loss of the eye. A hit anywhere else may break the skin (up close) and at a distance will usually hurt & leave a red mark. As with any weapon, due care is called for when using.
What it is: It's a heckuva lot of fun as a plinker in the backyard. You can shoot this thing all day around neighbors and usually no one cares, and within a reasonable distance (20' or so) you can usually hit what you're pointing at.
It's a good pest repellant. I actually bought mine to run dogs off that liked to visit my yard to go potty, tear up garbage, etc. I've used it for dogs up to the size of large German Shepherds, cats, raccoons, squirrels, possums, and rats, and none have hung around for round two. It usually won't penetrate the skin beyond 10-15 feet, but it puts a stinging on them that they remember. For this purpose the gun is well worth its cost.
And last- it's a real bargain for what it is.
Marksman 1010 September 1, 2009 Da Milk Man This pistol performed better than expected. However, it was not without its flaws. The pellet seating tool didn't seem to work to great, as in using the tool to seat the pellet, the proceeding to fire the weapon did not result in the projectile in leaving the barrel. However, using the dart seating tool in place works fine. It will feed BB's reliably as long as you tilt it when cocking the pistol as to make sure a BB chambers.
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. July 11, 2009 David B. Leadbetter (FT. WORTH, TX.) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
THIS GUN IS ALMOST A GLORIFIED KID'S TOY. MADE OF 99.9% PLASTIC.
ONLY SHOOTS TO 15FT MAX & BECAUSE IT IS SPRING LOADED IN VERY INACCURITE. SO DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I AM TRYING TO GET A REFUND FROM AMERICAN WEB MALL.
